Today I will tell you about the archives at Gladstone’s Library. As an intern, part of my role is to help organise any new archives that we get in but first I will talk you through our most popular archive: the Glynne-Gladstone Archive. William Gladstone’s papers are kept in three different places. Lambeth Palace holds his diaries, The British Library hold his public/political documents and we hold his personal documents and correspondence. These are kept in the Gladstone Library strong...

Every month the library team curates a new display for visitors and everyone who uses the library. This month Elspeth and were giving the task of putting a display together about Germaine de Stael. Though I’ve never heard of her before she was one of the most well-known and influential female writers during her the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. As I now know a lot more about Germaine I’ll first tell you how Lord Byron described her. He said that “She would have made a...

Today I´ll tell you something about marketing days. Every intern is allocated one day a week (in my case Friday) they are responsible for the Twitter and Facebook accounts of the library. Every day there are supposed to be at least three Facebook posts and three tweets. And believe me it’s not always easy to come up with something that hasn’t already been posted that week! As the posts are supposed to be connected to the library or the collection, I usually go on Gladstone’s library...

On Sunday I had my first bonfire-night experience! Katie, Elspeth (the other interns) and I went to the Bonfire at Buckley. There were two big fires ignited and a fun fair with candy floss, fresh donuts, burgers and of course, this being England, plenty of tea on hand! There was a firework display that went on for about half an hour and was amazing! You might ask yourself right now what Bonfire Night is or what the British people celebrate on Bonfire Night. That’s why I'm going to summarize...

This is a slogan of Gladstone’s library but as it comes to the Internship it is incredibly accurate. I’m not only working at Gladstone’s library I’m also living here! Whilst most interns of the mobility project have to look for an apartment and organise their lives, living at Gladstone’s is way easier. I’ve got a room to stay and food is served three times a day. So no need to look for an apartment in a city I’ve never heard of and no need to cook after having finished work for...

This is my seventhweek at Gladstone’s Library and I have found the time (and the courage) to finally post a blog about my experience so far! Finding the time has been a challenge because the past few weeks have been incredibly busy and the courage … well, I’ve never had to write something of this length in English before! What you’re going to get today is a short glimpse of Gladstone’s Library. Here at the library we actually do Glimpse tours 3 times a day – 7 days a week. This way...
